Postcard Poem 10: Branding

April 23, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ 1 Comment
When the storm clouds came

down the coastline, we

were too determined

to leave. When the sheets

of rain blew our blanket

away, drenched our skin

we didn’t complain. We

knew we asked for it

Postcard Poem 9: Brockway Farm

April 22, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment
The green grass has grown

full. The cows content

in the paddock bellow

Their moans like thunder

roll through the valley as if

they know, they see

something coming

Postcard Poem 8: 1908

April 21, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment

The women stared

knowingly at the painting

The sailboats made

for seafaring

all of them docked

floating in the bay

Postcard 8: Unaweep Canyon

We came here

for the view

Some call it

perspective

Postcard Poem 7: Stockhammer

April 20, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment

Even on the cold slopes

there were signs

of life. Pine trees

marched up the trail

blocked the snowy

wind

Postcard Poem 6: Sagamore Hill

April 19, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment

We beheaded the greats

made them small enough

to mount on the wall

We know they are dead

but sometimes their eyes

follow us to the bookshelf

look over our shoulder

when we pull an old title

Postcard Poem 5: Mammoth Caves

April 18, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment

After the panic attack

in the cave, I was

too shaken to drive

So we rode the boat

down the Green River

All I could think about

were the people who died

Postcard Poem 4: Electro-Motive

April 17, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment
It was all we hoped for

something fast

something beautiful

Postcard Poem 3: Modern Conrail

April 16, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment

It wasn’t a train wreck

per se, just two blue

engines in a standoff

waiting to see who

would make the first move

Postcard Poem 2: A Reminder of Days Gone By

April 15, 2022April 14, 2022 ~ Danielle Verwers ~ Leave a comment
All the old river towns

are slowly dying out

casinos keep them alive

Locals wage their paychecks

Strangers make bets

on riverboats hoping

for a win, leaving

with empty wallets
